Remember when I told you about Erykah Badu and her sister shooting a video with the Flaming Lips for the song, First Time Ever I Saw Your Face? There was a bathtub filled with a cummy liquid (which I have since discovered thanks to the internet, was actually cornstarch and water) and the two Badu’s were naked with glitter all over their huge asses, showing pussy and tits.
After the video was out, Erykah caught a public hissy fit all over her twitter and said that she felt misled by The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne. She said that the video was way too shocking for her and her fans to handle so the video was pulled from everywhere and erased from the net. After the public bashing between Wayne and Erykah was done and over with, The Flaming Lips decided to re-shoot the video with none other then my own personal naked art making hero, Amanda Palmer.
I don’t really get all fan girl about that many people, but Amanda Palmer is totally someone that I am fascinated with. She’s married to my favorite author, Neil Gaiman, she is strong, confident and amazing…and she’s not afraid to get naked down and dirty for the sake of art.
She simulates masturbation in a bathtub better then Erykah Badu could have.
The video was released over the weekend, and while there isn’t any of that thick gooey cum substitute that I fell in love with, there are lots of nipples and bush and naked rock stars in the bathtub.
It is amazing. Here’s the new video:
I love Erykah Badu’s music but her reaction after the whole Flaming Lips/cum-filled-bathtub thing was really disappointing to me. She sees to be unashamed of her sexuality but instead of embracing the art that she and her sister created, she back peddled…she blamed him for misleading her and made it seem like she and her sister were swindled that they didn’t realize what kind of perverse situation they were getting themselves into.
Here’s a hint. If there are cameras are rolling…and you are naked…and you get into a bathtub filled with something that looks like cum…and you’re a famous musician…It’s going to be something that a lot of people are going to talk about and you should probably be prepared for a bit of backlash.
I’m not exactly sure how Badu missed that life lesson.
I’m very glad that Amanda Fucking Palmer was the artist selected to re-shoot video. I think she’s a better fit to the message of fantasy and first impressions that Coyne was trying to express. She unabashedly screams that no one should be ashamed of their naked bodies or their sexuality and that you shouldn’t let your prude fans or the media dictate what is and is not art.
