New York is the epicenter of American culture. The things we think are cool over on the West Coast were popular in New York approximately 10 years ago. For example, the dude wearing skinny jeans and a Jem t-shirt behind the counter of your favorite trendy coffee shop in Southern California looks exactly like the lead singer from The Strokes back in 2001.
Suppose this is true and not just some random fact I made up to start this post. We could learn a lot about how American, if not global culture will change by looking at the hottest trends to come out of New York City today.
According to statistics released by our very own YouPorn.com, this means we’re going to see a lot more BDSM porn.
Attributed to the popularity of Fifty Shades, searches for bondage/discipline porn are on the rise worldwide. However it was New York that experienced the largest increase in searches – a spike of nearly 90 percent from April to June of 2012 versus the average 67 percent increase for the rest of the world. While those of us outside of the Big Apple might be shocked and appalled over this flagrant display of hedonism, it came of no surprise to New Yorkers.
NYC has always had a prominent underground sex scene. The Eulenspiegel Society is one of New York’s oldest BDSM groups, and one of their spokesmen is quoted as saying “New Yorkers are progressive sexually and open sexually and have a tendency to lead the way.” If this is true, then we may someday see home sadism kits next to the vibrators in WalMarts across the US.
As sexually deviant as I am, sadism and bondage kind of scares me. I do, however, like to be pushed around by taller women. While primarily a boxer, my gym does offer Jujitsu classes. At 5’7” I have a stocky yet powerful frame and rolling around with a long limbed, physically powerful woman who is trying to rip my arm off is the primary reason why I wear the tightest athletic supporter I can.
