Ayy, the Fonz might only live on in our hearts and souls, but Henry Winkler is still alive and well. And he’s making a comeback on Broadway of all places… playing a pornstar of all things:
According to a press release, The Performers, set to begin previews Oct. 23 and open Nov. 14 at the Longacre Theatre, is a romantic comedy in which “sex, love and Barry Manilow intersect.” Winkler and theater hottie (and sometime 30 Rock presence) Cheyenne Jackson both play porn stars, though Winkler’s character, Chuck Wood, has obviously been in the biz quite a bit longer.
Yeah, that’s right a well placed quote is much easier than paraphrasing something. What can I say, I’m lazy. Anyhow, now that you’ve got the deets, I can tell you about the plot:
During the play, set at the Adult Film Awards in Las Vegas, Wood ends up dispensing advice “about the ups and downs and ins and outs of love” to Jackson’s character, his girlfriend, and another young couple.
Whaaaat?! I already told you I was lazy. As if I was going to actually think and find my own words only to give you the play’s synopsis. Jeez, writing is for suckers, baby. It’s all about the cut and paste. Quotation marks and accurate sourcing make it all legit.
Gotta say though, my inner theatre geek is pretty excited at this new. Henry Winkler, a pornstar?! It’s the perfect fit. I give it two thumbs up. He even has a pornstar name. Henry Winkler, doesn’t that sound like the name of someone who could have put up some stiff competition for Ron Jeremy. Look at old school pictures of Jeremy and then look at some pictures of the Fonz; they could have been brothers or at least cousins or something.
