With the Olympics leaking into just about every news source we hold dear, it’s hard not to become a little patriotic unless you come from a country that’s more concerned with feeding its citizens than spending millions of dollars training somebody to run really fast. America, or ‘Murica as we say, couldn’t give less of a shit about that.
We have Michael Phelps, The Dream Team, Serena Williams, and a bunch of other men and women who are awesome at what they do. While the majority of them will be working at the mall after we’ve forgotten about them (I’m pretty sure Kerri Strug works at the Macy’s I go to), for now we cheer and clap every time we win, or somebody else loses. This is pretty much the whole point of the Olympics.
Aside from MMA and Football, I sort of don’t give a shit about sports – and neither of those are in the Olympics. With my body’s reserves of patriotism still not depleted but my interest in the Olympics rapidly fleeting, I have to find something else to cheer about besides ‘Murica winning in obesity, gang violence, and firearm injuries.
In honor of the 2012 games in London, the dating site Match have put together some international data on dating habits, which they call the Dating Championships.
Events include “Fearless Females: Single women who have asked a man out” and “First Date Smooching: Singles most likely to kiss on a first date.” There are 12 of them total, and ‘Murica makes a pretty solid showing, as do Canada, Britain and France. Perhaps the most interesting bit of data from the Championships is that, besides loyalty to their own countries, most people agree that Southern Europe has the world’s hottest singles. Given what I’ve seen of this year’s Olympic games I would be hard pressed to disagree.
