Sex sells! You know it, I know it, we all know it. Try to read a magazine, view a website, or watch tv without seeing an ad with a sexy gal selling you something. You can’t. It’s impossible. But why does sex sell? How does it work? Science wanted to know so some researchers at the University of California conducted an experiment to find out. And what they found is popping some hotties in advertising turns your brain off and when you’re stupid you like buying shit you don’t need.

The scientists hooked some volunteers to machines to monitor their brain activity and showed them a variety of commercials. Ads that used good points to argue why you should buy something actually stimulated the subject’s brains, there was more brain waves and more thinking going on – but advertisements with sex and models in bikinis reduced brain activity, those adverts made the test subjects think less! Sexy content reduces rational thought and increases impulsive behavior, impulsive behavior like buying some crap.
