World Cup And Safe Sex

Four more days until the World Cup begins. Hundreds of thousands of fans have already flooded into South Africa.

With the mix of tourists, sports and alcohol and an estimated 40 000 visiting sex workers there is sure to be a whole lot of sex going on. In 2007 there were nearly 6 million South Africans living with HIV/AIDS. So the lots of sex part is a good thing as long as it’s safe sex.

HIV/Aids organizations are looking to educate on the importance of condoms and other health related issues but supposedly FIFA (the international body governing association football) is blocking their way.

“To date Fifa has not permitted any civil society organisation to distribute HIV- or health-related information and Fifa has not provided any written confirmation that condoms may be distributed at stadia and within the fan-fests. This is despite the fact that commercial sponsors selling alcohol will have dedicated spaces available.”

It does seem strange that FIFA would actually block the distribution of condoms considering even the much more uptight Olympics handed out over 100 000 free ones.

Earlier this year, the UK government donated a sizeable sum of money to South Africa to buy 42 million condoms. Maybe this could finally be a use for Ed Hardy condoms.

Oh Good, a reason to post more pictures of almost naked women in soccer gear.
