I was once in a sociology class where the professor told us that long after humanity has gone extinct, an alien vessel will come to the earth. While rummaging through our ruins to determine what we were about, they will be able to look at almost any period in history and conclude that we were obsessed with penises.

From ancient fertility statues shaped like massive dongs to modern entertainers who incessantly grab their crotch on camera and all the porn in between, it’s an accurate statement.

We are a people obsessed with sex and the wiener is a prominent part of it. A lot of the male identity is associated with one’s penis making it extremely difficult for men who, for whatever reason, don’t have one.

One man familiar with this anxiety is Andrew Wardle of Manchester, England. The 45-year-old was born with a one-in-20million birth defect that caused him to develop without a penis. However, thanks to the miracle that is modern medical science he now has a fully functioning bionic penis made from some advanced medical tubes and donor flesh from other parts of his body. Cool!

Wardle’s new dick was primary made from a skin graft from his arm and a collection of nerves from his leg. Along with other tubes and devices, it was assembled by doctors and later attached via a surgical procedure called a phalloplasty.

The result was a fully functioning penis that becomes erect by activating a valve inside of his testicles and has enough sensation to allow Wardle to experience an orgasm. Unfortunately, the recovery from the ten-hour procedure included a painful erection that lasted ten whole days and a recommendation from his doctor to not have sex for at least six weeks.

That’s like getting a bike for your birthday but also breaking your leg… and getting a boner for a week and a half. The wait was well worth it, though.

Andrew was not only able to lose his virginity at 45 years of age, he may even be able to have a family. The medical procedure he received is so advanced that his bionic penis was hooked up to his perfectly healthy testicles making it possible for him to conceive a child. The UK’s healthcare system is just showing off at this point.

At any rate, we’re happy everything worked out for Wardle and his future family should he choose to start one. Hopefully he doesn’t have any extremely rare medical conditions he may pass on to them.
